About the Role
- Design Engineers own the experience and visual language of Langdock, then turn that design into working software.
- You take an ambiguous product problem from the user's workflow through information architecture, interaction design, visual execution, and production code.
- The source of truth is the product, not a handoff. Figma is useful for exploration, but the decisive design work happens in React, where real data, latency, permissions, edge cases, and responsive behavior are visible.
- This role spans individual product surfaces and the systems behind them, including shaping major workflows, building the component library and Design Systems that raise the quality of work across the company, and helping other engineers make better interface decisions.
- The tech stack includes TypeScript, React, Next.js, and Tailwind CSS in a Bazel monorepo, with Node.js, PostgreSQL, and Prisma used when work crosses into the backend. Linear is used for planning and GitHub for code review.
- A video of the engineering team is available to provide a feeling for how the team works.
- We operate with high trust and autonomy in squads of 3 to 4 engineers. A squad owns its roadmap, prioritization, technical decisions, and operation in production.
- We align asynchronously before scheduling a meeting using Product Requirement Documents (PRDs) and design documents to make architectural boundaries, tradeoffs, failure modes, migrations, and rollouts explicit.
- We optimize for leverage, where engineers choose the AI tools that work for them, supported by clear ticket context, focused branches, automated tests, and AI review.
- We invest in observability, migration tooling, automated recovery, and runbooks.
- The engineer who ships a change owns it in production and leads the fix if something breaks.
- This is an in-office role in Berlin.
- Most engineers start around 8:30.
- Lunch is provided, and dinner is available for people who stay later.
- Running and gym are part of the routine for many in the team.
- You need an existing right to work in Germany; visa sponsorship is not currently provided.
What You'll Be Doing
- Human-agent collaboration: Designing how people give agents context, steer work in progress, approve actions, inspect tool calls, recover from failure, and review complex outputs.
- Dense enterprise workflows: Making permissions, governance, configuration, evaluations, and workspace administration understandable to occasional users without slowing down experts.
- Creating work with agents: Defining the interfaces where people and agents produce and revise documents, analyses, spreadsheets, applications, and other structured work together.
- The design system: Building and evolving reusable components, interaction patterns, typography, motion, and layout principles.
- Prototypes and production interfaces: Turning uncertain ideas into realistic software quickly using React and Tailwind CSS, and going into the backend when a strong end-to-end result requires it.
- Product storytelling: Applying visual standards to launches, product pages, demos, and other materials that explain what Langdock does.
What You'll Bring
Experience designing and shipping production interfaces in React, Next.js, and Tailwind CSS.
The ability to use Figma when useful, but a preference for testing important design decisions in working software.
Ability to take an ambiguous problem through user flows, information architecture, interaction design, visual execution, and production code.
Full-stack familiarity to handle backend work when the experience requires it.
A strong, considered point of view on visual design with the ability to explain decisions.
Care for interaction details, including transitions, hover states, loading behavior, responsiveness, accessibility, and empty states.
Ability to give direct, constructive feedback and help other engineers improve the quality of their interfaces.
Contribution to a thoughtful working environment and care for the people around you.
Portfolio requirements: A Dribbble profile, screenshots, or videos of designed and implemented interfaces, or a 2–5 minute screen recording walking through a project from problem to shipped product (explaining design decisions and the code behind them).
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: €90,000–€140,000 gross per year.
- All roles include equity.
- Levels are based on the work owned rather than title or years of experience, and salaries are tied to levels rather than negotiation.
