Knowunity

Study app for school students, with shared notes and an AI tutor for homework.

About the Role

  • Design is the single highest-leverage investment at Knowunity right now, and you’ll be at the center of that shift.
  • We’ve built a product millions of students love, powered by an engineering team that ships & learns extraordinarily fast.
  • We are going all-in on craft, focusing on UI excellence, motion design, and systematic thinking.
  • We just brought on a new Head of Design.
  • We’re building a Design System from the ground up.
  • We’re working with Ragged Edge (the agency behind the Transferwise & Granola rebrands) on a major brand evolution.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Raise the bar on everything students see, touch & feel to make the Knowunity product undeniably world-class.
  • Set the standard: Create UIs students want to screenshot & details they feel, but can’t name, making your work the reference point.
  • Scale it: Use curated references, stellar components & sharp reviews to make it easy even for vibe-coding PMs to hit the standard.
  • Pioneer AI-native design: Figure out how AI changes how we research, ideate, and ship, as well as what we ship, from AI-assisted workflows to AI-native product experiences.
  • Idea to production, fast: Work directly with C-level & engineering to move from concept to being live for a million students rapidly.

What You'll Bring

Your portfolio matters more than your years of experience; show us work that moved metrics & delighted users.
Craft-obsessed: The details are the design, and you push back until the bar is raised.
AI enthusiast: From Prototyping to research to shipping, you see AI tools as a multiplier.
Systems thinker: You care about scaling quality across a product, not just a pretty Figma library, using Code-first design systems and AI-powered design reviews to work at speed & scale.
Simplifier: You turn complicated user journeys into experiences that feel obvious.
Biased to action: You move fast by default, preferring Prototypes over presentations and experiments over endless debate.
Builder: You like getting your hands dirty, with bonus points if you’ve shipped a side project end to end or opened a merge request.
Team-first: You value direct feedback and have no preciousness regarding territory.
Curious: You stay up to date with new tools, patterns, and ways of thinking through continuous experimentation.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Impact at scale: Your work reaches millions of students daily.
  • Elite team, real ownership: Work with +60 exceptional people and have direct access to C-level & founders, owning entire areas from conception to delivery.
  • Compensation & equity: Competitive salary paired with meaningful equity in a company with genuine unicorn potential.
  • 28 days annual leave.
  • 40 days work from anywhere.
  • Personal development budget.
  • Mental health support.
  • Urban Sports Club.
  • Monthly retail vouchers.
  • Team & company events.

Interview Process

  • Intro call: Get to know each other and see if there’s mutual excitement.
  • 5 minute Loom: Walk us through something you’re proud of, such as a feature you shipped or an app you vibe-coded.
  • Deep-dive call: Unpack your Loom case with our Head of Design/CPO to discuss your experience & perspective.
  • On-site day: Meet our CEO, CPO & the team to work together and get a real feel for the culture; travel will be covered.
